How, Why and When was this Cogat Practice Test Introduced?
Students, who aim to be a part of join programmes for potentially gifted individuals, must appear for the cognitive abilities test, popularly known as the CogAT test. This test is the basic or staple requirement for entry into any such programmes. Quantitative Reasoning- As the very name suggests, this section deals with mathematical concepts and judges the ease with which people can solve a problem using basic mathematical operations. The course for this section includes quantitative relations, equation building and quantitative reasoning. As the quantitative section of the test literally makes or breaks things, the test taker should have a fairly sound knowledge of mathematics. No matter which field a student chooses, one does require a basic knowledge of mathematics, thus the CogAT evaluates a student’s potential in a particular field, by indicating the level of mathematical knowledge of a student. Verbal Reasoning- This section comprises of language based and verbal reasoning questions. For clearing this section, people need to be well versed with concepts of vocabulary, sentence completion, critical reasoning and writing and comprehension. In this test, people have to use the right words among a given set of options to complete a sentence, verbal analogies, questions from comprehension, and also questions based on critical reasoning.
Non-Verbal reasoning Section- This section comprises of questions based on geometrical patterns and figures. Here also, the section is divided into three separate sections, for evaluating a person’s reasoning ability from three varying angles.
